There are many outstanding humanitarians in Sarasota, but few who stand out because of their unwavering and persistent advocacy for a cause. Roy McBean is that person who was true to a principal humanitarian cause—helping youth who may not have academic opportunities or moral support, to succeed as leaders, achieve academic success and live healthy lifestyles. To honor the late Mr. McBean, there will be a Celebration of Life service held at the Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club at 1790 21st street in Newtown on Monday, March 10 at 10 a.m.

Joey Gratton Championship
Joey Gratton loved sports and excelled in everything from Baseball, to Motocross, to Boat Racing and Tennis. Joey also loved kids. He went out of his way to say something nice and supportive to a young athlete and he never hesitated to reach into his pocket and help pay if someone was in need. After his death in 2011, his family chose to create the Joey Gratton Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to spread Joey’s passion for competition by supporting and promoting youth in sports. Because Joey loved the game of tennis, the first annual Joey Gratton Tennis Championships was created in his honor. This will not only create a venue to bring together the local tennis community, but also raise awareness for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota. Learn more at www.joeygrattonchampionship.com
