    DIGITAL ARTS FESTIVAL

    Three youth from Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County have been named the winners in a national digital arts competition for their creativity and use of technology in photo illustration.

    Martin Cedillo, Zoe Bouck, Anjolie Bodden

    were recognized as national winners for the Photo Tech category of the Club Tech Digital Arts Festivals for the 6-9, 10-12 and 16-18 age groups.

    The Festivals recognize Club members who use artistic expression in six categories: photography, music, graphic design, game design, movie animation and film.

    For the Photo Tech category, Boys & Girls Club members were asked to create a poster that showcased citizens engaged in activities that give back to their community or depicts someone who models good character. All three youth showcased creativity and tech skills learned at Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County. The entries were judged by a panel of national experts and competed against submissions from Clubs across the globe.

    “To have three winners named from the same Boys & Girls Club really speaks to the great things the Club is doing to encourage artistic expression through technology,” said Dan Rauzi, senior director of Technology Programs for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

    The Digital Arts Festivals are part of Club Tech, a program that integrates technology into Club activities to help youth develop skills critical to building a successful future. In 2010, more than 20,000 young people participated in local contests.

    Winners of the 6-9 and 10-12 age groups, Cedillo and Bouck will each receive $500 for their Club in celebration of their win. As a national winner in the teen division, Bodden along with teen winners from all six categories will receive an expenses-paid summer trip that includes sightseeing and job-shadowing experiences.

    The BGCSC winners were recognized at a special event held at LCM Capital Investments in Sarasota.

  •  APR. 16 WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP COUNCIL SPEAKER SERIES LUNCHEON will feature Roxie Jerde, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Roxie moved to Sarasota in March 2011 from Kansas City, where she served as Senior Vice President for Donor Relations and Education at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, one of the largest community foundations in the nation and widely regarded as a thought leader in philanthropy. SEND A CHILD TO THE CIRCUS…

Help make a Child’s Day a Little Brighter!

We are very excited about taking 300 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County to experience the Sailor Circus in March! This will be our fourth year for taking the Boys & Girls Clubs kids to the circus, but this year is very different. Our Members will have the opportunity to see the amazing skills and talents of kids aged 10-18 of the Sailor Circus, many of which are school classmates. Unemployment in this area is around 16% with over 35% unemployed in northern Sarasota. This is a special treat that the parents of these kids simply can not afford. And you can see the appreciation and excitement through the smiles and squeals of many deserving kids.

We have been given a great discount (half price) from Sailor Circus, but they are feeling the economic pain as well and will not be able to give us as many extra staff tickets to help with kids’ management and security. We are asking for donations to the Boys and Girls Clubs for this event which brings great joy to their lives in very, very troubled times.
